About us

Are you interested in sustainability? So are we.  Candlebark has alot of character from our use of recycled and rough sawn local timbers and recycled brickwork.  We have built the Retreat from blue gum timber, and the native pine verandah poles have come from a neighbouring property. We have used recycled double sash windows, and recycled timber for the kitchen cabinetry. Even the beautiful old door came from an old local pub.

Candlebark Retreat is nestled in a large native habitat garden, so you will awake to the sounds of the beautiful Australian bush. We have devoted one third of our 75 acre property to nature conservation - you may see colourful parrots and other native birds, the odd kangaroo, koala or echidna. Feel free to pluck fresh organic herbs from the old watertank herb patch, or wander through our 500 grape vines and enjoy our excellent red wine (shiraz & cabernet sauvignon) from our sustainably managed vineyard.

The Retreat runs largely on solar power to keep our carbon footprint low. And everything used in Candlebark Retreat, from dishwashing liquid to cleaning products, is environmentally friendly.
